MINEHEAD PORT & PIER - O16.5/On30
By Paul Davis

Minehead -Lynmouth Railway

In the late 1800’s after the Lynton to Barnstable Railway was built there was a proposal for another narrow-gauge line from Minehead GWR station to Countisbury Tors above Lynmouth. The line was surveyed by Sir Joseph Sumpter (who had surveyed the L&B).

Unfortunately, due to opposition from some landowner, it was never built.

The model represents the Minehead end of the line if it had been built

The two ships are based on real ones. The “Emma Louise” was the last Minehead registered ship owned by the Rowle family. He “Snowflake” was an ex-Clyde puffer based at Coomb Martin.
