St Kenvince - 00
By Nick Warren from North Road MRC
Set in the sectorisation period of British Rail, St Kenvince depicts a fictional section of the Cornish main line and a small china clay loading facility complete with the associated junction between the two. The inspiration came from Burngullow, although the layout is in no way a model of this actual location. This layout is a rebuild of a former version of the same name (see Railway Modeller March 2020). The scenery has been finished with an early autumnal setting and is deliberately rural in nature. The clay dries are scratch built, as is the main road bridge. Baseboards are made from 9mm plywood tops, framed with 18mmx44mm timber. Scenic items have been used from Peco, Woodland Scenics, Javis, & Ten Commandments. Road vehicles are all by Oxford Diecast. The trains running represent many of the services which were common at the time including loco hauled passenger, parcels/TPO & Speedlink freight amongst others. Rolling stock is all RTR from the main manufacturers and all items will eventually be weathered. Kadee couplings are used for hands free shunting, and magnetic couplings are used for main line rakes. A Lenz DCC system is used to control the layout, although points and signals remain on a traditional mimic diagram with toggle switches. Trackwork is all Peco code 100 with electrofrog points.
